Marilyn Powers Kampsen

After graduationg high school went to San Jose, Californa for the summer. When I returned went to work for The Topeka State Journal as a copy girl. worked my way up to obit writer and wrote the TV Log. Married Bob Kampsen in 1969. We later divorced. In 1981 returned to work at Kmart East and remained their until they closed in 2002. In 1981 my niece was abducted so a lot of time was spent in looking for her. I have three children and 9 grandchildren. Have spent a lot of my time since retiring help take care of the 9 grandchildren.

I think attending Highland Park High was one of the most fun and rewarding time of my life. The worst thing that happened to me was during speech class Mr. Roberts had us do an imprompto speech for 2 min. Mine lasted 1 min and so I had to stand up there for another min. I managed to get my thumb caught in the podium pipe and had to have it cut. Needless to say I did not continue on in to the public speaking field.
