Fred Stone

Fred N. Stone Fred N. Stone, 72, of Topeka passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2015 at Promise Hospital of Overland Park. Fred was born in Topeka on October 2, 1943, the son of Nels C. and Annetta Belle (Spencer) Stone. He lived in Topeka all his life except for a brief period in the military service at the Pentagon during the war in Vietnam. Fred graduated from Highland Park High School in 1961 and completed a BA from Washburn. With Ann McMorris they operated a florist business specializing in weddings for 35 years. Fred retired from the City of Topeka where he was Aquatics Specialist for many years. He began teaching at Washburn University in 1973 and continued until the present. In 1996, with Brian Pitman, they founded the Woodsland World Wide Carnival Glass Association which continues to this day with members from around the world. He is survived by his brother, Jack Hendrix; Phyllis Kinder; Brian Pitman and numerous cousins and friends. Following his wishes, Mr. Stone was cremated. A memorial service will be held at Davidson Funeral Home on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Later this spring, Mr. Stone s ashes will be inurned at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Manhattan.
