George B. Richards, 69, of Lecompton, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born February 4, 1943 in Tecumseh, the son of Earl B. and Ruth E. Grandstaff Richards. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1961 and attended Washburn University. He was a member of the Marine Corps Reserve. George had resided in Tecumseh for 67 years prior to moving to Lecompton in July, 2010. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 38 years before retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church. George married Sharon Herman on May 13, 1967. She survives. Other survivors include two children, Brian (Wendy) Richards and Angela Bailey, four grandchildren, Tyler Bailey, Rylie Bailey, Hannah Richards and Jack Richards, and his two brothers, Roger (Leigh) Richards and Sonny (Gretel) Richards. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Graveside inurnment services will follow in Emmanuel Cemetery southeast of Topeka. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
