Melvin Douglas

Melvin Lavon Douglas Jr, 80, of Topeka, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, September 7,2022. He was born October 28, 1941, in Los Angeles, California, the son of Melvin Sr. & Beatrice (Thurman) Douglas. Melvin graduated from Highland Park High School in 1961. He worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber for 44 years and retired in 2003.

Melvin was a member of True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Topeka, KS. He loved playing dominos and spending time with his wife and family. Melvin married the love of his life Karen Louise Carter on February 16, 1963.

Melvin is survived by his wife Karen of 59 years, his sons Larry Douglas of Topeka, David Douglas of Denver, CO, Melvin Douglas III of Mesa, AZ, Terry (Joselle) Douglas of Topeka and Lee (Allison) Douglas of Richfield, MN, his daughter Sonya Reed of Topeka and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, sister Sandy Douglas, brother Darrell Douglas and daughter Toni Carter.

The public viewing will be from 10am – 11am at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, 307 SE Tefft, Topeka KS 66607, on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11am. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
