Carlene Lee Powell, 71 of Greenwood, Arkansas passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 in Fort Smith. She was born August 17, 1943 in Topeka, Kansas to Homer and Evelyn Baldwin. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1961. She married Thomas Henry Powell on September 3, 1967. Carlene's family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1978, where she worked for Cutting Tools until a job transfer took her and Tom to Greenwood, Arkansas in 1997. Once in Greenwood, she was able to pursue her passion as a florist. She was employed by Southern Florist, where she retired. She was a member of Saints Sabina and Mary Catholic Church in Jenny Lind, AR. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit with the family from 6 – 7 p.m. Thursday, August 28 at McConnell Funeral Home, 137 No. Main St., Greenwood, Arkansas. A Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel. She is survived by her husband, Thomas, who has retired from Sutherland Lumber and Lowe's; one brother, Walter Baldwin and wife, Beverly; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Smith and husband, Glenn and their children, Brooke and Jamie. Thomas and Carlene have two children, Tony and Mary. Tony lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana and is a parts manager for Truck Maintenance. Mary lives in Indianapolis and is a physical therapy assistant. Mary's family includes husband, Jim, State CSM with the Indiana National Guard, daughter, Samantha and son, Zachary. Carlene's granddaughter, Samantha lives in Pugent Sound, Washington, where she is employed with the Hilton Corporation. Samantha graduated from Johnson and Whales in Charlotte, North Carolina with an Associates of Science degree as a pastry chef. Zachary lives in Indianapolis, Indiana and is in his final year at The Art Institute of Indianapolis for Web Design. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus, P.O. Box 180367, Fort Smith, AR 72918 in Carlene's name.

Helen Wearley (Kay)

Carlene's face is one I won't forget.  We most likely shared several classes.  Her face will like in my fond memories of Highland Park HighSchool.  (I only attended during my freshman year).
