Andersen: A Fairy Tale Life at Washburn University

Hi, Classmates!

As I think you all know by now, I have written a musical about the life story of Hans Christian Andersen. It was written some years ago and had two productions, and then I tried to 'pitch it' to

Washburn University. Neither of the department chairs were interested in the project, so finally I gave up on it. Then in 2021, through a series of events I discovered there were new department chairs, and this time, it was embraced by the newt chairs as well as the president of the University.

It was presented the last two weekends in October, and I would like to make a shout out to several people. First, Richard Hayes took the project on and did a lot of legwork in marketing the musical. He took flyers to all the local high schools, and spoke to universities in the area - K-State, KU, and a number of others. Second, Julie Thompson, who 'talked it up' to friends. and even had me speak to her local PEO chapter.

Last, to anyone who attended - including Richard and his wife, Julie, Phil and Joy Davis, Sharon Shipman and her husband, and Roni, (Veronica) Priddy and her husband. (Can't remember your married names, Sorry!) And, to my astonishment, I discovered that 'Roni's grandson played young Hans Christian in the show! And, he did a beautiful job!  Sorry for the long post, but I wanted you all to know how grateful I am for help and support from high school friends!

The show is going to be presented in Indianapolis, either the fall of '22 or '23, and then if it's well received, perhaps on to New York. Who knows? Stranger things have happened!

Sorry for such a long post, but I thought some of you might be interested, it was so fun to have it happen on home turf!

Best wishes to all my classmates for a joyous and happy holiday season!

Love from June
